Shift II

Shift II
Steel and Moss
30x50x30"
2013

I am not interested in front and back, there is never a right or wrong way to look at something. So I wanted to try and make something that would transform as the audience walked around it, the perception of the work changing as if the work itself was moving.

This was a small scale sculpture that stood as a model for an enlarged work (Shift II). This work also stands as a complementary work to Invert, previously posted.

Through the visual contrasts of the materials there develops an open dialogue between the artist, the audience and even between the materials themselves. The combinations of materials, (fiber and acrylic, plastic and wood, plant material and steel), break down the conversation into simple opposing and complementing forces. These comments of sincere pairings strive to stand alone as a statement but to promote or uncover thoughts evoked by these composites.
