Shift II

Shift II
Steel and Moss
30x50x30"
2013

I am not interested in front and back, there is never a right or wrong way to look at something. So I wanted to try and make something that would transform as the audience walked around it, the perception of the work changing as if the work itself was moving.

This was a small scale sculpture that stood as a model for an enlarged work (Shift II). This work also stands as a complementary work to Invert, previously posted.

Through the visual contrasts of the materials there develops an open dialogue between the artist, the audience and even between the materials themselves. The combinations of materials, (fiber and acrylic, plastic and wood, plant material and steel), break down the conversation into simple opposing and complementing forces. These comments of sincere pairings strive to stand alone as a statement but to promote or uncover thoughts evoked by these composites.

Greg Kondos' Studio

Moni and Greg Kondos welcomed Kevin and me warmly into their home last December. We received the full tour of their beautiful home, art collection and Mr. Kondos' studio. Here are the pictures from this wonderful adventure!
I am now on a week long adventure taking a class with Kondos in Tahoe, updates to come!

Alcove

Here is a fiber relief piece I created using Rhino and the laser cutter. I began with a cube and other shapes that I removed from the original cube using boolean difference. Then I created serial slices using the contour command.

Savor the subtleties

These geometric and organic sculptures explore form, landscape and architectural references. These are reactions consisting simple happenings and events. I wanted to savor the subtleties in the brush strokes created in the plastic wrap and the liquid plastic (acrylic) as it wraps around this structured stark white volume armature.
